  1. What is carbon capture and storage?

Carbon capture and storage is a method of separating carbon dioxide (CO2) from a gas stream and then storing it permanently. The aim is to mitigate undesirable climate change by reducing carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.

  2. Carbon capture in Oslo

Today, the waste incineration plant at Klemetsrud accounts for as much as 20 percent of Oslo’s fossil CO2 emissions. Establishing carbon capture at the plant is therefore essential if Oslo is to achieve its ambitious climate targets.

A carbon capture facility at Klemetsrud in Oslo could capture up to 350,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
