Hafslund posts strong results through the third quarter

Hafslund reported a profit after tax of NOK 3,200 million for the first three quarters. This represents an increase of NOK 371 million compared with the same period last year. Higher realized power prices contributed positively, while power generation was lower than both last year and normal levels.

Operating profit amounted to NOK 10,208 million, compared with NOK 7,110 million in the same period last year. The increase was mainly due to higher power prices, strong operational performance and effective production optimisation in both the power generation and district heating businesses. The achieved power price was 102 øre/kWh, 35 øre higher than last year.

Power generation totalled 12 TWh in the first three quarters. This is 7 per cent lower than in the same period last year and 14 per cent below normal generation levels. The lower generation was mainly due to less snow during the winter, combined with below-normal precipitation. Operating profit for the power generation business was NOK 10,016 million (NOK 7,196 million in the corresponding period in 2025), representing a 39 per cent increase year on year.

District heating sales totalled 1,247 GWh, an increase of 15 per cent compared with the corresponding period in 2025. This was mainly due to the winter of 2026 being significantly colder than that of 2025, resulting in higher demand for heating in the capital. The district heating business reported an operating profit of NOK 353 million for the first three quarters of 2026, NOK 336 million higher than in the corresponding period in 2025. The increase in operating profit was primarily driven by higher power prices, which lead to higher selling prices for district heating.

“Over the next ten years, Hafslund plans to invest NOK 40 billion in hydropower projects. These strong results provide an important foundation for implementing these plans. We are well underway with developing hydropower projects in Hallingdal, Aurland and Østfold, among other locations. These projects could help increase power generation and capacity,” says Finn Bjørn Ruyter, CEO of Hafslund.
