What is it like to work in maintenance at Hafslund?
Both learning and practice
As an apprentice in a vocational subject, you get a combination of learning and practice. The company that takes you on provides you with both training and the opportunity to participate in the daily work. In the beginning, there is a lot of new things to learn, but eventually, you will be involved in doing the usual tasks together with us.
Being an apprentice means that you are both an employee and simultaneously undergoing education. Thus, we enter into two agreements – an apprenticeship contract and an employment agreement. The apprenticeship contract concerns your duties and rights under the Education Act, while the employment agreement gives you the same rights and duties as other employees.
What trade certificates can you get?
If you choose a vocational education program in upper secondary school, you start as an apprentice after two years in school. This is followed by 2 to 2.5 years of work practice, where you gain experience and skills in the subject. Finally, you conclude your apprenticeship with an exam, and if you pass, you receive a journeyman's certificate or trade certificate – depending on the field.
