The local community

At Hafslund, we create great value for society. We contribute tax revenue to the Norwegian state and profits go back to the community, as we are 100 percent owned by the Municipality of Oslo.

Overview of Oslo

Our main business is delivering renewable energy and ensuring a stable power supply in Norway. We are also a major employer and create many jobs throughout Southern Norway.

The profits go back to the community

As a power producer, we use the country’s natural resources and therefore pay a special tax that provides significant income to society every year.

The Municipality of Oslo is our sole owner, and the dividends from Hafslund go to the Municipality of Oslo, which in turn can use the money to benefit the capital’s residents.

The capital remaining in Hafslund is used to develop new renewable energy and other investments that support our strategy.

Creating value in local communities

We have a close relationship with the communities where we operate and with the host municipalities for our power plants. We work closely with local communities and always try to use local suppliers and partners whenever possible. Short distances between suppliers and power plants protect the environment and local infrastructure, while also securing local jobs.

The role of hydropower as a flood protection measure

Our hydropower works as a flood protection measure, which increases the safety of local people and limits damage. With climate change, we expect more frequent floods, and regulated hydropower will play an increasingly important role in managing and preventing floods during heavy rainfall. Flood damage can be greater than the interventions by developing hydropower plants, so we see this as an important part of our work.

Sponsorship

Hafslund supports the local community in many ways, in line with our values and goals. We provide support for sports, outdoor activities and culture for children and young people in the areas surrounding our locations, power plants and facilities. We also support activities and organizations that focus on climate and the environment, such as Zero and Bellona.

  • Our collaboration with Zero involves working to ensure that more renewable energy is used, and considering new business models within renewables.
  • We support a number of local sports initiatives. Together with Klemetsrud sports club and Mortensrud school, we have started the Hafslund Academy, a free football academy for children in grades 5-7 at the schools of Mortensrud, Klemetsrud and Stenbråten.
